1911's are great and I love them. But most seem to have pretty sharp edges and things that get in the way when I carry. For that reason I went with a Ruger P345 as my everyday carry piece. Now if you're not interested in carrying your .45 then a 1911 is your best bet. I really like the Ruger SR1911.
This is why you dehorn a 1911 (i.e. round the edges).

Any gun that isn't properly dehorned is going to have sharp edges that will catch on things.

That said, a full size 1911 is fairly slim and if dehorned - is a wonderful firearm to carry. I carry my full size 1911 all day every day and have nary an issue :).

I like the finish on the Gen 3's vs the extra lines for the straps and all that on the Gen 4.. it already has the upgraded springs of the Gen 4's.. Added Trijicon night sights for $100, right at $700 right there. Never had one FTF yet. I wasn't really a fan at all of 'plastic guns' when I bought it, but it's grown on me.. and it shoots like a dream. I can't fault it.. lol :)

A used reasonably priced Heckler & Koch USP 45.

Designed with the Colt 1911 in mind, but with double action, with hammer and thumb safety/decocker.

A fine handgun, and my favorite 45.

I just picked up a full sized RIA in .45. After about 100 rounds not an issue yet.
About a month ago, I picked up a RIA 1911 in 9mm, about a 1000 rds. so far and not an issue. From what I've read, they have one of the best customer service dept's. around in case you do have an issue.
    The .45 was $495 and the 9mm was $460

If you are not sure on the 1911 either go to a shooting range and try several. Buy a RIA or one of the guns from Turkey and have money to buy ammo even at inflated prices. If you are like a large percentage of the people that try a 1911 you will be hooked. I have never had a double action trigger be as smooth as the 1911. The bust value in a 1911 IMHO is the Taurus pt1911. It will give you more bells and whistles for the money. My carry gun is a STI 2011 in10mm but look at the single stacks they make as they are top shelf 1911's. Ruger and Remington make $700.00 +/- 1911's that are good also. The only firearm I like better than the 1911 is a Colt SAA Model of 1873 nickel plated in .44-40 loaded with black powder.
