i used to see these every summer in an undisclosed location near Tulip, IN. they were also a popular discussion piece in school science classes growing up - their tails fall off if you freak them out and regenerate later. fun.

It is definitely a Five Lined Skink! I just caught a Broad Headed Skink for my reptile cage!

I have seen them in Evansville since I was a kid. I am 42

You can't swing a dead cat without hitting one around here during the warm months.

I can walk out my side door, walk along the side of my house and see one within 20 feet.

Looks like a salamander. You found it in a ravine? Near water (or what might normally have water in it)? Could be a newt, too. Best to put it back. Many of them are protected species and you never know when one might have special privileges accorded it by the powers that be.
