Just over a year ago I dug a small pit in my back yard, about the size of a pick-up truck hood and about 2 feet deep, with the intent of using it for a compost pit.
I have done just that. Over the past year I've put yard waste, garden waste, dog waste, ashes from the wood burner, I even put some straw in that I had left over from a job. I've kept it moist and covered with a tarp.
Once or twice a month I would turn it with a potato fork.
Late this spring I noticed I have enough of a "bed" that I now have dozens and dozens of night crawlers in one place in my yard and easily accessible on a whim.
I can't seem to find enough time to fish anymore, but now I don't need to go far to find worms.
