I really liked the old Commander IDS slugs. Since they discontinued them I have used the Hybrid Elite. They both are extremely powerful, the difference was just the accuracy in my particular slug gun.

My brother has used them in his Ultra Slug hunter since he bought it but is switching slugs this year. The slugs do not seem to be holding together as well as they used to. He shot a real heavy bodied deer four years ago and the slugs mushroomed perfectly. The slugs from the buck and doe he killed last year blew all apart. I don't think the quality is as good as it used to be.

I have noticed that distance (remaining velocity) the animal is shot at determines how violently the slug expands. I shot a small deer at 25 yards in the lower middle of the body, around the liver, with the Commander IDS slugs and found chunks of lead in the backstrap. But for such a poor placed shot, the slug turned the insides to mush and instantly dropped the deer.
