Did I miss something? Prices on used lever actions seemed to have doubled in the last 5 or so years, right at the same time I'm looking for a 30-30 or 44 rough-and-ready to store behind the truck's back seat!

Would expect AR prices to be up, and lever prices down, but what would have pulled $400-500 in 2019 are going for $900+ now.

Yeah, you missed it. Lever action prices have been high for last 8 to 10 years. AR prices are down because the market is flooded with manufacturers.

I've watched few gunbroker auctions lately on the marlin 336 and glenfield 30a. Ya can snag one up in the 500's-600's. I was able too this passed weekend. Pretty excited to get it.

Some of it is Hollywood's fault.
That last Jurassic Park movie showcased a nifty little 1895 in .45-70 and the market for them just went nuts.
More to it than just that but it seems like everyone and their dogs just realized just how much fun a lever can be.
O.p. be careful with the lever gun genre.
They will quickly begin to multiply...

A fellow Ingo member had a 30-30 Marlin in the classies a couple years ago for 500.
I didn't want to make the drive to Evansville so I passed.
Probably was one that got away. :dunno:

I saw a used Henry 45LC with threaded barrel at Tulsa Bass Pro on sale for $720, seriously thought about picking it up but time was very precious on this trip & didn't want to spend it waiting for 4473 approval & red tape for out of state buyer.

I believe it is Bidenomics, AND they are higher capacity than bolts, so they are selling in commie states. Demand goes up...Hey! Lets charge more... If I were to ever travel through New York, I would have my lever gun, and revolver. They don't violate any of their stupid laws, and I'm still armed ish...Take it for what it's worth but GForce is starting to make lever guns, haven't seen one in the wild, but Turkish guns have come a long way, so that might be a budget option...Do I want a Winchester 94 in 30/30...yes! Can I afford one....no! Heck, even the Rossi 30/30's are $700-900.

In late 1990's and Early 2000 you could pick-up:
    30-30 in the $400-500 range
    .22 WMR .22 LR $600-700 range
    .45 LC .44Mag $600-800

I still need a .44 Mag and a Win .307 to finish out collection. Good luck.

Pawn stores can be good places to look also. A friend of mine picked up a .44 Mag Winchester 94 at a garage sale.

Around 2000 I picked up a great condition Marlin model 336 in .30-30 on Gunbroker for the outrageous price of $225.25.

I actually beat out the next highest bidder by $0.25 to win that rifle auction.
I've since sold that to my little brother for what I had in it.
I purchased a brand new laminated stock Mossberg model 464 in .30-30.

I am SO glad I got all my levers when I did.
Me too. My wife thought I was crazy 10 or so years ago, when I paid $1000 each for a few special edition Marlins. I thought maybe she was right, but ... I wanted them! Flash forward to today, and I show her what they're selling for. Big mistake. Next words from her - why aren't we cashing in now?

And then I pick one up, fondle it, work the action, remember how sweet it shot, and realize .... I still want it! Ain't goin nowhere. And now, gratuitous pics, cause it makes me happy.

In the late 1970's the lever action was a "poor man's rifle", they were much cheaper than a bolt action.

Most could be had for right around $100 brand new in the box while bolt actions of the same make were twice that or more.

I'm going the old guy route...I remember in the 80's when you could walk into pawn shops in the Louisville, Ky area, and find 94's, and 336's for $100-200....dang to have a time machine! (plus go back farther and buy surplus M-1 Garands)
