Legality of trading guns

I have only signed a reciept once, the previous owner brought the pistol to the firehouse, asked for my name, license and address. I just looked at him said if you want me you'll find me here, handed him the cash and scribbled my name on his reciept..

How do they "trace" a gun if there's no registration? Do they call the manufacturer and see who they sold it to, then ask that dealer who they sold it to, and so on?

If I purchase a handgun from a private person, do I have to complete a transfer​

form?
No. Indiana does not require the completion of a form for a private purchase nor do you
have to route the transfer through a dealer. Recommend reviewing statutes in IC 35-
47-2.5 which is the chapter regulating the sale of handguns in regards to a private sale
or purchase.​

What happens when Johnny law walks up to your door and say " your gun has been used in a crime". You will say you sold it, but how do you prove it without any receipts? Now you have been linked to a crime.
I never sell anything without a receipt. I have been the one knocking on the door.

I've not sold all mine, I didn't lose mine. Nobody stole all my guns. I will be buried with my favorite gun and the rest passed on, or they will confiscate them from my cold dead fingers!
