....could you pour brewed coffee back through new coffee grounds and continually "brew" coffee until the product that came out turned to tar.

This is the talk of the office right now.

Any body have some proof to back up "x" number of times?

Went camping in Canada several years ago, there for six days made coffee three times a day in a old granit pot. We added one hand full of coffee to the pot everyday, Did not dump any coffee or ground until we were ready to leave the last day. Got a little stong but still drinkable.

You would loose a bit of the liquid each time you pour it through. So if your first run starts at 8 cups by the time you ran it through half dozen times you might be closer to at 6 cups or less. (Just guessing on the amount.) and you would have gone through quite a bit of grounds assuming your changing them after each coffee run.
In the end wouldn't it be easier to invest in a expresso maker? One pot of expresso is supposed to serve 4 people, but because of the serving size you can pour it into one large cup and add sugar and drink it down. Been there done that, and all I can say is YAAAAAA! YOWZER!
That might be the closest that you'd reasonably come to the "tar" that your looking for.
Good luck, when it comes to coffee my thoughts are "It's all good."
