I don't know how many times I've seen this everywhere. People spelling it RIFFLE. How many times have you read the word RIFLE and it still doesn't stick. You own them, shoot them, and love them, but yet don't know how to spell it. I'm sorry' it's not really a big deal, just gets under my skin. My rant is over...

Yeah I agree!!!!!!, and something that bugs me is when someone wants to "sale" something, or it's "for sell" ..... sorry for the rant-jack....

I can understand a mistake here and there when writing manually, but this is a computer. When something is wrong, it TELLS you with a red underline and even gives you options for the correct spelling.....If one can't even utilize this most basic of functions.....how did they learn to breathe.

    I agree completely!

i hate it when people dont or wont use any punctuation or capitals "and/or" for SOME REASON THINK THEY SHOULD USE ALL CAPITALS ALL THE TIME!

But then again, this may be why my wife calls me Walter? :dunno:

The only problem with spell checking software is that if will not flag a word used incorrectly.

For example; the phrase "for sell" will not be flagged as misspelled. Neither would "riffle" be flagged when used where "rifle" is correct.

Now "rifel" will be flagged since it is not a correct spelling of anything.

Proofreading is always a good idea.

Not trying to make excuses for myself but I occasionally have a type-o here and there or the auto-correct produces another word entirely. I am mainly on INGO through the browser on my phone and those little keys can be hard to differentiate at times.

I hate it when I see "noone" used in place of "no one". Also, when somebody uses "loose" instead of "lose" when they have lost something. An example would be, "It is easy to "loose" a small screw on the floor." I wonder how people can actually claim English as their first language when I see nonsense like that. :dunno:

I love it when someone has a rant about spelling then SCREWS the pooch on the title :D

    Its is It's:laugh::laugh::D:ingo:

Actually "it's" is probably the most used contraction that isn't used correctly.

    It's
It's is a contraction of "it is" or "it has."
    It's time to go.
    Do you think it's ready?
I read your article - it's very good.
Do you know where my purse is? It's on the table.
    It's been a long time.
    Its
Its is the possessive form of "it."
That's an interesting device - what is its purpose?

Gonna disagree here. The OP is incorrect because it is used as a contraction for "It is spelled rifle". No possessive in this case. Don't believe you can possess a verb. (May be wrong, have been before).

But, bad grammar is everywhere. Maybe that's why a person's basic communication skills are so important. I believe we all can agree with that assessment.

And I do have the errors here and there, usually Apple is what kills me. Stupid auto-correct doesn't always correctly correct.

If u no likem bad spellin get off da internets cause it full of baddies @ gremmer

My grammar pet peeve is less / fewer. As a matter of fact, someone misused one of them in the title of a post on this group of threads.

I have two degrees in English, and I make grammar errors when I'm more concerned about getting my ideas out than how they are worded. It happens.

I get annoyed by people that don't seem to understand contractions. does'nt, do'nt, was'nt, crap like that...I can't take the people seriously. It makes me feel like punching people in the face. Its and it's, used improperly quite a bit but that doesn't (or does'nt for a handful) annoy me nearly as bad as not understanding the basic rules of contractions.

There are times when I almost feel as if I have to use Google Translator in order to decipher a post on INGO. And don't get me started on the knuckle-draggers that type in ALL CAPS.
