Last weekend I took out my brand new 11-87 to the range. I wanted to put some rounds through it to test both it's function and I wanted to see if I could use it as a slug gun. I took two kinds of ammo with me. Winchester cheapo loads that you can buy by the case on the shelf at walmart for about $22 and change per 100 rounds, and some Federal truball slugs. I was short on time and didn't get to put as many rounds through the shotgun as I would have liked, but I got to put enough through it to feel good about it.
The gun cycled all the cheapo winchesters just fine and that was a real concern that I had. As far as the slugs go, I quickly realized how nice a semi auto shotgun is for absorbing some of the recoil and how I don't need anything more than just a bead on the end of my barrel to make a clean hit. I'm happy to report that I no longer suck with a shotgun and I have changed my signature to mark the end of my era of shame.
