Yeah, you're absolutely right. And tomorrow, half a million people are going to be unable to use their "toaster" because they couldn't be bothered to learn how to protect it.

& for those of us that know how to "fix" the problem it's gonna be a "payday" and it's gonna be raining money! So get ready to turn that lemon into lemonade cause daddy needs a new rifle. :D:rockwoot:

aside from a commodore the first computer i had was a 386 SX20 running in turbo.

Back when video cards came with 256k on them....there was no internet just BBS's, my modem was a 2400 baud....cdrom was 1x, and we still used 5 1/4 floppy disks.

Sheesh.....not to many virus probs back then, or porn for that matter...lol

Nope sorry that's not even going to help. Once the magic smoke get released you cannot put it back. You have to buy new parts that have replacement smoke.

No, YOU can't put it back. I mean, you CAN go buy a new part or I can replace it right here, right now, for only $19.95, plus labor.

@ jedi - Is it bad or extremely paranoid of me that I searched on my own for those links instead of clicking on the ones you provided, even though I ended up at the same point in the end. One can never be too cautious.

    Wait so WTF is happening?

    The sky is falling. Again.

Long story short: Lots of computers got infected. FBI sets up a server to try to track the bad guys. FBI is turning the server off tomorrow, but computers are still infected because people don't police their own stuff. Infected computers won't have internet access because the infection depends on the FBI computer to function.

Will running my Norton full system scan find it if I have it?

No clue I don't run any type of virus scanners on my machines. :) But I would venture to say that yes if you have the latest update virus file as the virus is over 1 year old.

As to why I don't bother to run virus scanners. Waste of money (for me) since I nuke my machine every 45 - 60 days anyways and do a fresh install. Back in my hard core gaming days having a fast PC to compete online was a must and that routine has continued even though I'm not hardcore into gaming anymore.

    NOPE! NOT AT ALL!!!
When I send the email to my family and friends I told them to do a Google search as well for the info because like I have drilled into them you never click on links in emails even if it comes from someone you trust.

The FBI website has a list of IPs that will go down when they turn off the server in a few minutes. Didn't save the link, but they make it easy to find the article, and how to determine if your number is up.
