I’m stoked. I got back my first shotgun today from my uncle’s estate and a couple other guns!
It’s nothing special but only to me. My uncle let me use his Jc Higgins.410 bolt action shotgun with a 5 round magazine as a kid. Lots of bunnies and squirrels taken with this as a kid (but this one is missing the magazine so I’m going to look for one )
2nd guns is a .22/20 gauge over and under. Savage mdl 24DL
    3rd is a Marlin model 25 bolt action .22
All in dusty and crusty shape but solid. I am soaking actions and taking apart and applying some TLC.
Bad pictures for now but get more as progress moves forward View attachment 365350View attachment 365351
Congratulations! All three are great guns. I had an over/under like that years ago and I wish I had kept it.

Have not had much time to clean on the guns.. the nicotine has colored the metal and it’s slowly coming off. Any thoughts on a good safe cleaner’s?? I’m using clp with a rag. I'd probably get the wood off the gun and do the metal parts with mineral spirits. Then do wood with Murphy oil soap.

Don't be afraid to use your wife's clothes steamer to help loosen up the gook.

No one could get their mind around how many youthful lives have been molded by any one of these firearms. All are benchmarks, you are a lucky well loved man...

If you can get your hands on some "Blue Wonder Rifle and Bore cleaner" it will melt that off like magic and not hurt the wood. It takes off anything but bluing and it will amaze you.

Yes, with the aid of a soft brush like an old tooth brush. The brown is just a combination of dirt and oil (gun and hand). this stuff melts it off without hurting the finish.
Yes, it's a beautiful 03A3 that's my sons. I've never cleaned the old cosmo and oil off that's dried up in the corners. I'll use it on one of my garands first.
    I'll order a tube tonight.
    Thanks.

I just used it on an old 1917 barrel I had laying around. It had been repurposed and parked after the great war. It goes on clear and turns brown as soon as it gets in contact with the grime.

Caution, never use Scotchbrite with it unless you want to take it to the white.
