Agreed. Over time, folks have gradually misplaced their trust in the government to protect them.

The police - for the most part - do their best with what they have, however in my small town the ratio of citizens to police is 580:1 as of the 2010 census... There is no way I can count on an officer driving past my house when I would need him most. That is why I choose to protect myself and my family and call for the police as soon as the situation allows.
