The Star reported several cases in which state police issued gun permits in Lake and Marion counties for people with violent or criminal histories despite objections from local police.

Lying and misleading through omission, as usual.

What this DOES prove is that at least in Indiana, lawmakers will LISTEN to hacked off voters.... No celebrations until it's signed, and a big THANK YOU to the HT and Red Star for pointing the issue out for us! (grin)

The folks in Washington still aren't listening - they will after November....

The Constitutional Republic may yet survive... a glimmer of hope, at least.

Indiana Senate backs bill closing gun permit database

    Updated: Feb 19, 2010 12:46 PM EST

Indianapolis - A bill that would end public access to the state database of people with permits to carry guns in Indiana has won final approval in the General Assembly.

The state Senate voted 48-0 on Thursday to approve the bill, which now goes to Gov. Mitch Daniels for consideration.

Legislators moved to close the records after complaints from gun owners when The Indianapolis Star and The Herald-Times of Bloomington used information from the database to scrutinize how gun permits are issued.

The Star reported several cases in which state police issued gun permits in Lake and Marion counties for people with violent or criminal histories despite objections from local police.

Supporters say those with gun permits have a right to privacy.

The House approved the bill 85-11 last month.

Yay! The criminals win again! Their rights are protected, so that they can go get a gun and shoot YOU again! Hooray for their rights!

The only thing the victims get is an expensive obituary column in the Star.

The newest issue of Guns & Ammo magazine that I just got in the mail has a small paragraph on the database. I accidentally left it at work today so if I remember I'll bring it home and scan it tomorrow.
