Heh. With the term "vapor lock", imagine them sucking all the air out of the room in a collective gasp.

The really cool thing about this "tree", to continue your analogy, is that you can see those other limbs. I think your estimation of it is sound. You're getting there. :)

There is no Indiana law forbidding the carry of a firearm on *college* campuses, however, an employee caught doing so can expect to be fired; a student can expect expulsion. John Q Public will probably be told he will be trespassing if he returns and put on a PNG list (persona non grata)

Schools, OTOH, are defined in the law and include registered daycares, Head Start, preschools, and K-12 (maybe others, I'm going from memory) Carrying there is a class D felony presently, and in July, presuming nothing changes, will become a level 6 felony. The change is only in the method of grading the "crime", levels vs. classes. Of course, if things DO change as I expect them to, the law will only apply to the actual school building and to school buses, not the grounds, and while presently, you may carry while dropping someone else off at or picking someone else up from a school if you are the driver of the vehicle, but you cannot exit the driver's seat in so doing, I expect the law to change to allow you to lock your gun in your car, out of sight, and still be in compliance with the law.
That's HB 1048, if you want to write your legislators and support it.
Also, HB 1018 will eliminate any and every "gun free zone" in this state not codified in a law written by the General Assembly. That would eliminate shipping ports, riverboat casinos, State Fair, and probably several others. That one is also worth supporting.

There are other pro-gun rights bills being debated; these are just the two most relevant. Also, with the events at Purdue today, those two could use all the polite support they can get.

    Blessings,
    Bill

    Bill,

"vapor lock." That's a good word for it.

I, again, appreciate your vantage. You are up on a higher limb and, no doubt, had to take the climb reasonably, deliberately over time. I'm pleased to be on the lowest limb I could clamber on to. When you mention that we "differ" it may be that I simply haven't had the opportunity to see things from your limb. You've got me looking up in that direction though. I thank you for that.

A question: While receiving NRA pistol training (basic safety, newbee...) the instructor at Midwest Gun and Range in Elkhart mentioned that there is no law preventing carrying a gun in a school, only (I think) at airports. The thread of conversation never came back round to it. He was quite resolute however. Do you have any idea what he may have been talking about?

Thanks, Bill. I knew about the state law as you recited, but was stymied when the guy so adamantly spoke that there was no law. Perhaps he was grousing to himself and taking us along for the ride.

in the meantime, I'll enjoy my rights on evenings and weekends and be a less- defended sitting duck by day. :xmad:

You know, Ed... just because you don't have a gun doesn't mean you're helpless. I recall a post on here where the member, a teacher, commented hypothetically about a loose chair leg on one of his chairs that might have somehow gotten sand packed into it to increase its weight, and a few other things that might happen... hypothetically.... in a classroom to make it a harder target.. I'm not sure where that post was, but I figure that a good look around your classroom might reveal some things that might be useful... hypothetically. ;)

    Blessings,
    Bill

True! True! I'm not helpless. I have mass and, therefore, momentum to work with. I can throw stuff. Being a teacher is not unlike being a parent. I can quite become someone (something) else if my kids are threatened. :)
