This. Just because someone has 50, or 5,000, doesn't guarantee a transaction.
But it gives people a chance to know you a little.

50 posts anywhere. Although I think the mods may not like them in the OSUT (Official Status Update Thread).

After 50, you can make small, useless posts all you want.
Before 50, and they go through and delete the posts.

G-dawg used to always let them know that the OSUT thread was off limits until they had their 50. After that they were more than welcome to take part in the thread. I miss him.

I like the idea of the 50 post minimum the only part thats difficult is the Can't reply to PMs until you've hit 50. I've got a guy waiting to hear back from me
