Texas may well return to the status of independent republic before it is all said and done.

If they are successful, they may have a real problem with the number of Libertarians that would emigrate past their borders.

    Let's not forget ...

... that "indians" have been Effing each other for millions of years. Round-eye just got good at doing it with modern weapons. We have not yet found "the oldest" nation/tribe/band of original indians. It's far back in the Stone Age. Yes, modern indians have it pretty good, and they still are Effing each other anyway. Can't blame whitey for this!! Red-man broke "treaties," too. EBG
Yeah but that's kind of how it is. Look at what happened to the "Indians". Whenever we decided we wanted something the treaties didn't mean squat.

People in general have been "effing" each other for millions of years. Doesn't make it "right".

The point is that we have "laws" that say our government can't do this or that but those "laws" don't mean squat when the government decides they want to do something.

As far as how good the reservation Indians have it these days... I can't say I'm surprised to see ignorance rear it's ugly head yet again.

If you were an illegal in another country you would find yourself without ability to exercise any rights at all. We hold ourselves to a higher standard and often a contradictory standard which allows illegals more "rights" than citizens in certain regards. Some of these policies are probably as dangerous in a more insidious way as allowing them to own guns but that is a different argument altogether.

If we did not hold ourselves to a higher standard, then America would be like every other country in the world.

Again, these rights do not come from the government. Our constitution purports to limit governmental interference.

I don't know why illegal aliens should not be able to enjoy the same rights as citizens. That being said, they're here illegally and should be deported posthaste.

    :noway:

Apparently someone hasn't visited too many native American reservations.

Do yourself a favor, and visit the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. It makes the island nation of Haiti look rich.

Well......kinda. Americans that also became Texicans.

Remember that Texas was an independent republic for 10 years after independence from Mexico, and before annexation to the United States.

Yep, and had exactly one embassy in the world in London (has been converted into a Tex-Mex restaurant). But that is all political bullhockey, every knew that Texas was going to be part of the Union well before the Alamo was garrisoned.

Interestingly enough, if you'll humor my love of history, The "Come and Take it Flag" (seen below), originates from the Texas Revolution.

    resized_Come_And_Take_It_flag_with_Cannon.gif

Colonel Domingo Ugartechea, who was stationed in San Antonio, ordered the Texans to return a cannon given to them by Mexico that was stationed in Gonzales. The Texans refused. Ugartechea sent Lieutenant Francisco de Castaneda and 100 dragoons to retrieve it.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Revolution#cite_note-davis138-18 When he arrived at the rain-swollen banks of the Guadalupe River near Gonzales, there were just eighteen Texans to oppose him. Unable to cross, Castañeda established a camp, and the Texians buried the cannon and called for volunteers.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Revolution#cite_note-davis139-19 The Texans stalled for several days until reinforcements arrived.

    QFT...
Curious thing Native American casinos being owned by persons decidedly non-Native American looking.
(at least those I'm familiar with).

    One drop?

The common perception was simply due to the sheer number of Americans spilling into Texas.

Though after achieving independence, Texas had a difficult time in convincing the USG to even consider annexation. Washington DC finally stood up and took notice, when Texas took the unexpected and shocking action of approaching England for the same.

In the business, they call that a damn good "bluff."

    Rights

I feel the need to correct something. The first post mentioned inalienable rights. It is actually unalienable rights. Big difference. Unalienable rights can never be given away, sold or given up in any way. Inalienable rights can be given up.

Since the Right to Keep and Bear Arms can obviously be given away, given up, or otherwise restricted by our government, I believe my OP was correct. :)

And I cannot find ANY dictionary entry for "unalienable" that differs from "inalienable". Most just cross-reference between the two words. Only conversations regarding the Declaration of Independence seem to distinguish between the two. Even then, they get 'em mixed up!

    Definition for unalienable:
    Web definitions:
inalienable: incapable of being repudiated or transferred to another; "endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights".

    un·al·ien·a·ble ( n- l y -n -b l, - l - -). adj. Not to be separated, given away, or taken away; inalienable

    Definition of UNALIENABLE

    : inalienable
(from Unalienable - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

No, illegal aliens should not be allowed to carry firearms imo. If an individual comes to this country, works hard, and attains proper citizenship, then absolutely yes they should be allowed to own firearms.
