There is no difference.
It's just created, so that people can laugh at each other and feel good about it.

Millions of WWII vets called them clips or mags (BAR mags)
There are army journals from the early days, when they first came out, calling them clips/mags.
Manufacturers have called them clips/mags.

Seriously, who cares.

So then, ships and boats are the same thing right?

And that room on the ship where ammunition and ordinance are stored, what's that called? the clip?

Dang it, I was with ya until 'engines and motors', I could think it out by myself but WHY! Help me out INDYGUNWORKS, so we can again demonstate INGO'ers patience and tolerance of lazy and uninformed(I wanted to use ingorant but thought that too strong for most to tolerate). Purple is implied.

An engine is a specific type of motor. all engines are motors, but not all motors are engines.

Motors and engines I give some leeway. The crowds I ran with considered it a motor if it had electrical windings in it. Otherwise it was an engine. Electric motor/internal combustion engine.

But I am still called a "motorhead"!:)

It only matters to the extent that the misunderstanding causes confusion.

If someone has a problem when you say "hand me the clip for that .45" it's not because he's confused.

Here is what you sound like when you think these terms are "interchangeable" or that the are the "same thing"

Wow, that dude is a tool... "The internets..." and it just goes downhill from there.

Using the correct terminology when you are speaking about something is the first indicator that you are indeed knowledgeable about the subject matter.

They are two different words, with two different meanings, and are two different items, that have two different applications. To say they are the same just because its a common mistake made, doesn't make it any less of an error.

Yes. You should use the correct terminology. And it IS CORRECT. In the past, IT WAS CORRECT.

Someone just changed it to make themselves feel better.

As I stated, the army used to call them clips.
The manufacturers used to call them clips.
Millions of servicemen called them clips.

Ships and boats, are the same. Where is the dividing line? A submarine is a boat, even if it weights 9k tons.
But a destroyer is a ship, and 2k tons?

The room where ammo is stored.
Show me where it was regularly called a "clip room".

But, I guess since we're changing history, what the heck.

No, the point is, that no one regularly referred to it as a clip room.

Yet an enclosed storage space for the feeding of ammo into a weapon has been regularly referred to as both magazine and clip.
It is and has been, in regular use.

And there are not magazines on subs.
They are lockers (small arms), or racks (torpedoes).

So as long as incorrect terminology is used frequently and over a long period of time it can eventually be considered correct? You seem grumpy, is it extra hot there today? :p

Why is this thread on page 4 when it was resolved on the 2nd and 3rd post.

I see you're new here...

Welcome to INGO! :ingo:

Perhaps you'll enjoy our light bulb discussion:

How many INGO members does it take to change a light bulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs
1 Mod to harangue the OP for no real reason
1 to move it to the Lighting section
2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section
7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs
5 to flame the spell checkers
3 to correct spelling/grammar flames
3 pedants to argue about what factory the best one comes from
6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"
15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct
19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum
11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum
2 greens to argue about the carbon footprint and how it should be a longlife one
36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty
7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs
1 Mod to edit a link or two
4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's
3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group
13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"
1 spammer to inject some Nike bulb linkspam
5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy
1 crazy trying to jack their postcount to 10,000
4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"
1 Admin to comment on site policy re. lamp posts
1 to talk about his YouTube lamp vid
13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"
1 GrimGroan and 1 BogJam to try and outdo each other with the coarsest vid on bulbs possible without getting an infraction, cunningly hiding the worst linkspam and vulgarities right at the end of the vid where only Special Forces dudes are tuff enuff to get to and even so 3 of them died getting there
1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.

Still doesn't make it right... and those millions of service men probably fed their rifles with clips (m1 garand) and were not properly educated.
