I can imagine a history teacher trying to lecture on Viet Nam, or Korea, or WWII, Civil War, or any other war for that matter, without saying the word "gun". Another example of political correctness gone berserk. This principal should be fired. There should be a penalty for such blatant disregard of free speech.

If I were the parent and didn't care about the consequence and could afford it, I would sue the school and inquire about bringing a lawsuit against the Sheriff's Department. I don't know about questionnaires, but I know that you can't just go into a man's house without a warrant barring exigent circumstances. Then I'd withdraw my kid from the school. I'd also try to make it has public and embarrassing as possible for the school.

I can't imagine being a history teacher and having to explain the Battle of Gettysburg without mentioning guns. This is getting ridiculous. In the immediate aftermath of Newtown, the overreactions to minor incidents of kids just being kids made a certain amount of sense. But now several months later it's just getting annoying and causing my head to explode with the stupidity. It's like teachers aren't taught how to deal with normal childhood behavior and how to react in a rational manner.

Damned meddling ACLU standing up for the kid - who do they think they are?

If the ACLU weren't so selective in their definition of liberty I'd support them. They are ideologically apposed to citizens owning or carrying firearms. You don't see them getting involved unless there is something else to the case besides "guns".

So if I sing the National Anthem will I get suspended for talking about bombs and rockets?

Can you say Bazooka? Landmine? Grenade? Atom Bomb? Dynamite? Explosion? Firearm? Rifle? Pistol? Slingshot? Shoot? Geez......what kind of world do we live in now. It's OK to bully a HS girl at a tennis match because she lives in one state and attends school in another, but say a prohibited WORD..........

Take notice of where this happened. MD. Super liberal communist state.

With the cultures of the different regions of our country becoming so vastly different, I have to wonder if America will exist as the giant nation it is today 20 years from now.

Right now all that keeps us together is $$$$ from DC.

What happens when that runs out?
I'm both fascinated and terrified to find out.

My wife worked at a local elementary for a while. Their mascot was a minuteman and during her stay the minuteman's longrifle was replaced by a flag so as not to promote devilish guns. Of course, if the minutemen had been armed with flags instead of muskets we would still be SUBJECTS of the English Crown.

I think we need an ACLU like organization who is not so politically selective on which liberties it wants to help protect and promote. It needs to be in a position to help elect liberty minded people to school boards.

If schools were truly interested in combatting bullying in school, they would start with the school administrators since they have both the power and the inclination to abuse others. It is reaching the point where sending a child to a public school is a form of child endangerment.
    I couldn't agree more.:)

    More details have emerged.

Father is a retired Navy veteran, and his son is an honors student who pitches for the local baseball team. And the boy wants to be a Navy SEAL.

When the sheriff said he would need to search their home, the father asked by what authority? Sheriff said that he had to make sure the house is clear of guns. They got as far as the kitchen when the father became uneasy. He asked the deputy to leave and the deputy became agitated and threatened get get a warrant. Father said, fine, go ahead.

After the deputy left, the father called the sheriff’s department and was told over the phone that no, officers would not be searching his home.

Deputy also told the father that if he didn't answer the four-page questionnaire, his son would not be allowed back in school.

My son wares a shirt to school once in a while that has advertizing on it for a LGS. never have heard a bad word. As we were walking out the door one day a teacher did ask us if we like to shoot guns and my son said yes. We talked for about 5 minutes about the different guns we have. He shoots too. I am glad he doesn't go to a socialist controlled school! lol. It's a pubic school too.

If this sort of thing ever happens in Indiana, encourage your kids to get suspended. The school systems then have to furnish private tutors for each one. State Constitution, kids will recieve a free education.:)

Ok, with all these ridiculous actions by the school, what can done legally to make sure that these school officials know that these types actions are some form of abuse. It's traumatizing to these youngers and are setting a wrong example when in the real world, this is not what they're going to encounter, a eutopia world.

All I keep hearing are what this or that school has done to this certain kid who brought this or that and said this and that. None of these parent ever did any form of legal action against them or anything at all? It's really upsetting that more and more of these are happening.

And this "father" answered a four page questionnaire befor the deputy would leave his house! I wonder why he didn't let him search his house?
