I have been reinforcing my decision to never again fly in an airplane.

Very much a known problem. Unfortunately, there's not a good way to fix it, particularly the way that boarding order/priority is currently incentivized on airlines - whether that is for overhead bin space or for seat selection. You can't make people disclose their disabilities and you can't put up barriers to entry for people who legitimately need the assistance. So, the system is ripe for exactly this abuse.

The solution is to pay for the seat you want, and either a) have high enough status to board as early as possible, b) only carry on items that will fit beneath the seat, and/or, c) be amenable to your carry-on luggage being gate-checked. There is absolutely no sense in stressing out about the jerks who abuse the system.
This is why we can't have nice things.

Looks like an ultra low cost regional using old prop planes. I don't know if they've been hacked or let their website expire, but it goes to porn now.
Many airlines use those planes in the US still, I saw the article as I'm on a Delta flight at 33,000' right now. Westjet had one of those planes a few gates down in MSP...

Curious to find out the cause.

It's been built for roughly 25 years, though. I bet the ones at a Brazilian regional are more...vintage than Westjet's examples and I'd trust the maintenance and pilots of a domestic budget carrier more, personally. Especially if they are so cheap they don't have onboard water for passengers (which, is just from Tripadvisor reviews so maybe it's not true)

They were advised of known icing slightly above and below the altitude that they were flying at. Unfortunately the ATR-72 has some very poor icing problems and judging by the flat spin, very possible that the wings stopped flying due to icing.

Black box readouts will be interesting.

I recall several incidents w/ ATR-72s and icing. IIRC, they have inflatable bladders, not heaters.

    Brazilians must be slow learners.
The ATRs have a history of that.

Points earned should be redeemed at the rules in place when they were earned.

Airline miles are a bit of a game, and it takes some effort to win at that game.

Cash is king for a reason.
