I haven't seen one since we had a low in the 30s a couple nights ago. That's usually the sign that they're gone. I wonder though if they know to go when it hits 39 degrees or if the cold kills them off?! I usually leave a couple little feeders out in case of a transient straggler.
haven't see any hummers for about 3 days now. Brought the 2 feeders in and cleaned them all up for next year. I already miss them little
birds. Have to wait to see them again until at least April or even May depending on the temperature.
I had ice in my birdbath yesterday, so I planned on taking my feeders down, however, I didn't get around to it. This morning, at 7:45, I was looking out at the thick frost on the ground and was surprised to see a hummingbird at one of my feeders. She stayed around until 8:15. I assume she is a northern bird just passing through, but she could just as easily be a straggler.
