my dad has a 1500 .223 and it is dead on. I really like it. Action is smooth, quality seems great. I like it as much as my savage bolt actions fit and finish.

I picked up my son a Howa 1500 .223 heavy barrel and wooden stock. I cut the barrel down to 20",refaced the cut and cut a 11 degree target crown on it. Glass bedded the stock and lightened up the trigger pull. It is a VERY nice handling rifle and very accurate. Good guns IMO.

I've got a 20" heavy barrel .308 that I adjusted the factory trigger on, added a Bell and Carlson Medalist stock, glass bedded and put a Millett 4-16x50 Tactical scope on and when I do my part it will stack my 168 gr. Hornady A-MAX reloads into a ragged hole at 100. (I had a 5 shot 100 yard group that measured .540") Did I mention it has a factory barrel?:D

You can get a Weatherby Vanguard carbine model for around $450. It comes with a factory tuned and adjustable trigger. I have handled one, and it felt solid.

They are probably the best value out there for someone who doesn't intend to build. Handle gas extremely well, two lugs on a well designed bolt, triggers feel good, good recoil lug, reliable feeding, typically well machined optic mount arrangements.

Their biggest drawbacks are weight and middle of the pack factory barrels. The trigger isnt the most reliable in tough conditions. Unless one intends to build, in which case they lack the sort of improvements available to the Remington offerings.

I have a howa 1500 in 30-06 and one in 375 ruger and its worth the money to buy it with the nikko sterling scope package. I got a great deal using the gallery of guns gun genie and they warenty the gun If you have a problem you take it back to the dealer you got it from. It's worth checking the price get the insant quote for your area it will show an out the door price.

Howa's are good rifles and seem to shoot well. Savage is another brand that you can count on shooting very well. They make Stevens without an adjustable trigger as well as most Savage models that do have adjustable triggers. For the money I don't think you can beat a Savage!

I shot a 1500 in a .204 flavor and like everyone is saying they are smooth, nice grouping shooters. Picking one up is on my to do list.

There was a guy on ARFCOM that built up a Howa 1500. My friend has one that is factory stock and it's a good shooter. It's a great sleeper gun IMO.
