Do you think how you carry and what you carry, spacifically OC; determines the response you get about OC?

Absolutely I think it does. I think a lot can be said how someone chooses to carry their firearm. The size of the firearm may scare the sheep, and in that case... But your poll question seems to actually be two seperate issues I think and the choices seem kind of ... doctored, especially the last one. :)

I voted yes but honestly only think it's about 75% what and how you carry (yourself - not just your holster type.) Some folks won't notice or care regardless. Some are so rabid in their anti-gun mindset they would freak no matter how discreet and professional your carry.

    1. Dress and attire
    2. Grooming habits of the person
    3. Attitude and personal interaction skills
    4. Location of carry, the environment
    5. What type of firearm carried
    6. Method of carry on body
    7. Race, ethnicity, age and various related factors

Anyone remember seeing the news reports as Mmoja Ajabu was being escorted into the courthouse with two gentlemen carrying shotguns? Those images have stuck in my head. If observed in any other situation, that would have caused problems, I think.

I agree 100%. I have been OC for several weeks now and have not had one encounter, yet.

    Yes.
FOr instance, if I met the first guy, I'd probably talk to him about cowboy action shooting. I don't know much about it, but I bet he could tell me a lot.
The guy going to home depot could be me, except I don't wear my desert boots when I'm not in uniform, carry an XD, not a Glock, I don't tuck in my polo shirts, and I'm not that tall (only 5'11")
The last guy....pretty much says "Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he's too old to fight, he'll just kill you."
I would feel perfectly comfortable inviting any of these gentlemen to my house for dinner.

I normally CC myself, I'd rather not let them know I have one on me. That way if something were to happen I'd have the element of surprise on my side. Plus so you don't freak out the antigunners when you walk into somewhere. I rarely OC, normally only somewhere I know there are gonna be others doing the same or around the farm.

In my opinion, carring OC gives up the ability to surprise an offender. If they see your firearm, they will know that you will put up a fight and possibly neutralize you immediatly. It could allow for several offenders to attack at once, not allowing you to defend yourself at all.

That being said, it could also deter an attacker completely.

I prefer CC, no one needs to know what I have on my person except my wife.

I have both OC'd and CC'd since I received my LTCH over a month ago. I have been confronted once and ironically it was the first day. I was OCing in a Chinese buffet before work and a lady asked me if I were a cop. I told her that I was just an ordinary citizen just like her and we shot the sh*t for a minute. The next day I started untucking my t-shirts.

I OC'd when I was out with the fam at wally world last weekend. But when I go to the little league park or the zoo I make sure to conceal as well as I can.

I think the type of gun, and how you are carrying it, may have an effect on the response from folks around you. Sometimes just because some guns or carry methods may be more likely than others to be noticed in the first place.

For example, my Beretta 92FS in it's Serpa holster is somewhat more noticeable than it is in the Uncle Mike's IWB tucked into my pants.

Other than that, I don't know if most self defense guns would be received differently or not.

Yes. I've been in the same Cabelas as other members here on the same day, within minutes of each other.

I was dressed in Khaki's and a plain black tshirt. No one said a word. The other member was wearing jeans and a tshirt with screening on it. He was asked to conceal or leave.

I suggest that ANYONE just starting out OC'ing dress VERY well until they get comfortable OC'ing. Then they can revert to what they normally wear.

When I wear Khaki's/ 5-11's I never even get a sideways look. When I dress in jeans/shorts and a tshirt with a design on it I do get a lot of double takes.

Attitude also has something to do with it as well.

People make assumptions based on many things. The presence of a gun is low on that perception IMO.

Right or wrong, that's the way it is.
