I'd love a full month's cash on hand, but usually only can afford $1500. I have savings of three months in the bank at most times, but it is REAL hard not to go buy something cool with it.

I understand. I used to have the same habits, but I now prioritize my freedom and preparation for not-so-good times over new toys.

I keep around $3000.00 or so. Part is my gun and ammo funds and part for emergency. Like was brought up before, if power is out in towns only cash will work. Right now I have about $3400.00 on hand. I try and put any overtime money and change into this fund. The change is the gun and ammo fund and the cash is for emergency.

I think addresses and times you all go to work should be included in your reponses .:D

My wife keeps a stash she thinks I don't know about so I just worry about beans and bullets. Cash will only be good for short time in a lot of SHTF scenerios. Food, bullets, and gold will be the currency used.

The cash stash is more for personal emergencies and needs.

Less than $30 in cash (bills) on me or in my place at any time. I'm so screwed, lol.

Too dependent on my Debit card working.

One phone call and every thing you have can be taken from you or tied up in minutes. Mistake or not, you are screwed and begging.

I keep enough of what I need handy to hunt down people who mess with me or mine. I may never get it back but they aren't pushing a button some where and laugh because they think they put me on a leash.

They have all that in their facebook accounts they posted a few days ago. Probably list all their relatives and give you pictures of people to have your look out watch for. I bet if you look a while there will be a picture of the vehicle they drive too and where they work so you can watch to see what hours they are gone from home every day.

No facebook or myspace for me. I'm too stupid to operate them.

    Yep...

    Or what about BANK FAILURES?

Sound "crazy"? 7 (seven) banks failed Friday (yes 2 days ago), alone.

At this point only a fool would believe that ANY bank is "ok".

Unless you are actually paying attention, you will be missing many of the reasons why we are entering (if in) a depression and pushing a great depression. Read up on the last one.. it's eye opening.

When SHTF I got stash of guns and ammo and a straight shot to the nearest big woods. I will be in the woods providing for my family and when I don't hear anymore shots in town I will come back and pick up the peices

Personally, I feel if stuff gets real bad you wont be needing any "money". You'll be needing cigs. and liquor. That's just me though! I do try to keep a little cash, but I wont get into that!

Thumbs up to all for having cash on hand,
But some food for thought. Cash on hand needs to be protected from the threats of fire, theft, being used at the casino (inside joke), and last but not least termites! Second, before WWII hyper inflation set in and the people of germany would burn their money for cooking and heating because it wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.
