The climber wears a full body harness, he clamps off at the waist onto a pole.
His clamp assembly slides freely up the pole, but stops every foot or so on the way down.
Leaning backwards allows him to go down.
I have climbed a 200' freestanding tower and a 40' tower that was on top of a 14 story building.
No fun.....
