near Bedford on a whole lot of land.
How long does it take to bring water up to 212F in a large cauldron?

Starting at 70f that is 142f temperature rise. It will take 142 btu/lb of water assuming 100% efficiency, roughly 1100 btu/gallon. Your average sized large cauldron holds about 30 gallons, so about 33k btu to bring it to boiling. Most stove top burners are about 12k btu, but a large cauldron should fit on at least two, so about an hour and a half, as a first order approximation.

They'd be less likely to enter in the first place with two large GSDs politely telling them it would be a bad idea.

At least until the dogs were put down... Perceived endangerment and all ya know...not that it happens of course.

Seems like 45 minutes is more than long enough for somebody to be standing on a porch then... Your fine analysis not withstanding.

If they don't answer the door your options are 1) Go away 2) Post up and get a warrant 3) Boot the door. Which of the options is appropriate depends on the situation. Option 4) attempt to annoy the owners into opening the door is dumb.

Option 5) Dress up like Ed McMahon and walk up with a giant check has yet to be decide in case law.

Any self respecting castle would use pitch instead of water...

    This! :+1:

ALL LEO's are forthwith prohibited from wearing clothing of a 'militaristic' or 'uniform' nature and must henceforth "dress up like Ed McMahon" and carry ONLY the non-lethal version of the 'giant check'. :lmfao:

Oh, and ya also have to learn the 'McMahon laugh'.

I wouldn't wait for 45 minutes anywhere, if I believed I could obtain a warrant. I'd knock 3 times, and then have other officers post up around the possible exits, yell "ok, now I'm going to try and get a warrant," and then do just that. In and out in 25 minutes.

Kut (doesn't play games with non-door answer-ers if a warrant is possible)

If he did that, that would have given the PD their exigent circumstances to enter the home.

Police trying to enter your abode creates an exigency for police to enter your abode? Interesting 'created exigency' situation... I'm sure the Court of Appeals would have no trouble with that one.

Did the article mention any PC for a warrant, or exigency that would justify a 'dynamic entry'?

Sounds like #1 is the only option. And Jardines suggested that without PC, the officers can't even enter the curtilage...

yep, super easy....juvenile calls 911 saying some guys with guns and flashlights are trying to break into their house, dispatcher tells them the police are outside and to open the door. Kid hangs up and goes to hide out. The kid just called 911 to report an emergency and possible MWAG, they have to ensure the safety of the juvenile.
