    I get your point about value. Your example of a high$car lasting 10 years and still being an asset is understood. But it's more than a little arrogant to say that since someone has nothing to steal they shouldn't worry themselves about protection.

    About as arrogant as yours is uninteresting. Create a cogent idea based on reality, not hand-waving and fear-mongering.

    Go buy your Yugo, they make them for a reason... someone buys them.

    It's not so much that you shouldn't worry about protection, as much as it likely isn't prudent to be running around in fear looking to pick up the first weapon you run across because every person you see might rape your wife and kill your dog.

    To borrow another phrase... discretion is the better part of valor. Be smart about what you're buying and why. It would be unfortunate if you really did have to use your weapon and were relegated to tossing it as a piece of steel at the perp's head because it won't fire... a $20 crowbar would be of more use at that point.
