I recently went a little overboard at an auction and bought this awesome Model 1871 Springfield Rolling Block rifle. I bought it as an upgrade to the other one in my collection (which I have now listed on the trader). These rifles are pretty rare with only 10,000 having been made. They were only made for two years, 1871 and 1872. The action is different from any other Rolling Block rifle. When the hammer is cocked and the breech block is opened, the hammer drops into a safety position. After the breech block is closed, the hammer has to be pulled back into the firing position again. The only other rolling block that shares this safety system is the New York Militia rifle. I have been looking for a nice 1871 one for a long time, so I'm definitely happy to add this one to the collection. 50-70s are a blast to shoot too!

Beautiful rifle, and thank you for sharing. I'm hoping to add a Remington Naval contract to my collection one day.
Thank you! As fate would have it, I actually bought one of those on the same day at another auction. The auction company neglected to mention that it was missing the firing pin, but at least that's a cheap and easy fix. Now I need to track down the NY Militia rifle and the .50 CF Navy pistol.

That's really cool! I love that weird stuff, lol
Yes, me too! I wasn’t sure what it was when I won the auction, assumed it was a .50-70. I got it the week before I was leaving town to go to a fun shoot, so I quickly figured out what it was and cut down 10 cases to try it out for the first time with my friends at the shoot.

I saw you mention a .50 CF Roller pistol; I hold love go have one of those or at least shoot one once or twice! That would have to be fun!
