Wait. If I read the original story posted right, what Cali is asking for is not that the federal government spend more that but allow them to spend less on federally mandated programs. What's the problem with that?

I started out making fun of the fact that the federally mandated programs are forcing the state to spend more than they have in the budget. To me it should be common sense. Don't spend more than you make, if you can't pay the bills cut back. It's common sense for everyday people but for some reason our government just doesn't get it.

I read the article and a few others and it sounds more like political misdirection to get a straight up handout. Saying that drilling for oil off Santa Barbara and cutting mandates for spending on social programs will help the state is an accurate request, but really cast in the same logic as expecting Mr. Abajibajab in Iran to start celebrating Hanukkah. These things just aren't political reality in California which is why he asked for them. The real deal making will be over an exchange of political votes and influence for federal cash to keep the status quo running. Once done, other states will be at the table asking for the same deal. Chicago political machine will become national political machine with enough states on the payroll like Michigan, Illinois, New York, etc. The country as a whole will pay for it through taxes or inflation.

Good point. So the ones that cant run, stay and perish.
Is that about right? That is what I'm thinking. Small business will not be able to thrive in a Obama socialist economy.

TopDog: That's the way I see it. It's a repeat of the ghetto situation... those that can get out, do so. Whoever remains behind gets left with the ruins.

Ashkelon: I've heard that very same arguement from my sister-in-law. She says they're ruining the economy in Montana by driving housing prices thru the roof and taxes are going up with it. Also, the Califorian's are DEMANDING that Montana become as liberal as they are. So, they're changing the politics also. It's a recipe for failure.:xmad:
