I am not a big revolver person so I cant readily identify this gun. It is a S&W 38 special I think it is pre model 10 but I don't know.
Anybody tell me what this is and approx value.

I've got one that is in much better condition that I gave $300 for. If that helps.

My only question is how many patent dates and what range?

The original M&P:rockwoot: Value would be $200-$300 probably. How does the barrel look? Any pitting inside? Does the action lock up tight?

Inside the barrel looks good and action is good, just a shame it wasn't stored better.

Can you elaborate on "original M&P"? Like I said I am not much on revolvers

Military and Police. I would have $250 on it in my shop. One of the greatest handguns of the 20th century IMHO lest my comments be construed as "testy."

They came in .32-20, 38 Special, .38 Smith and Wesson, and .32 long, with the majority being in .38 special. A true classic and still a viable defensive weapon to this day. And it's made out of steel...I like the round butt with the hard rubber grips on that one. I wish it could talk, I bet it has some stories to tell.

I would contrue them as "accurate" but my Smith & Wesson bias is showing.:D

You old fogey...You know they are outdated...:D

I just thought of new lyrics for a rap song from my daughetr's favorite Shrek scene at the end of the film...

"I like Round Butts and I can not lie...
    You other Brother's can't deny..
That when a Smith walks in with
    a little bitty grip I get...Feelings."
