Greetings,
I had been terrified of guns my whole life. Last December an incident occurred that convinced me I needed to get functional around guns. I was walking in Chicago at about 9 pm. I was on the street behind the Hilton Hotel. I was the only person visible for 2 blocks. When I got to the corner, lying in the middle of the sidewalk was a hand gun just laying there. At the sight of it I froze. I did not move for about 30 seconds. Then a cop and a short guy in a black suit came out of the hotel. He picked up the gun and the cop said to me "he is security for a Foreign dignitary." With that they both went back inside.
Just the sight of the gun made me freeze in my shoes. I was completely helpless. I decided that night I needed to get comfortable at the sight of a gun, learn how to unload a gun, and learn to shoot. I have taken the NRA pistol class and shot gun class. This year I plan on regular range time and some more stress inoculation courses. This forum is a great resource. Thank you to all that contribute.
