Does anybody know of a TRUE high deductible for a self employed person?

I'd ideally like to get a TRUE $5 to 10K (or so) deductible.
(What I mean by TRUE is that I pay every penny up to the deductible and the insurance pays NOTHING until i reach it)

I JUST want catastrophic coverage, and will pay everything else myself.

Yet I find that NOBODY offers anything like this.

You just described a High Deductible HSA program. Should be available from most companies. I like the Anthem Lumenos program. Pays nothing until you reach your deductible then 100% after that.

With the HSA you pay the first $5,000 with tax-deductible dollars.

    To John (et alia),

I understand your position and hope things improve.

The real issue that should have been addressed is not "health care" but rather the spiraling cost of health care.

We have the greatest health care system in the world: IF you can afford it.

I am 47, single, non smoker, $5k deductible, minor copay for office visits and dope, with a private plan through Pekin Insurance. I pay $224 / month. My employer pays 75% of that. I am lucky that my employer pays a medical stipend because we don't offer a group plan.

My employer has been trying to get a group plan in place, but like Dross brought up, I am in a group whose average age is much older. If my company ever gets a group plan and forces me on it I will probably pay more than I am now. By forcing I mean they will do away w/ the stipend and I will either be on my own OR in their group.

Good luck to everyone dealing with this issue.

    Regards,

    Doug
