You seem to be confused. Obama's EA removed CLEO certification from the NFA process, which is why I don't really understand why the state legislature thought this was needed. Here are some links:

CHIEF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER CERTIFICATION TO BE REMOVED FROM NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT TRANSFERS

    Actual final rule:

Huh. I heard that it might have gone the other way (requiring CLEO even for trusts) but I didn't hear it swung back the other way.

Perhaps the bill was drafted before that happened.

The bill probably was, but the ATF final ruling was posted in January, so the politicians should have known this would do nothing. Maybe they were hiding under a rock during Obama's big announcement.

When does DNR normally publish their yearly hunting guide?

If the Technical Correction day is normally in June, and there are rumors that the bill will be clarified/"corrected" to only 5 specific chamberings (ie. 300WM, excluding 300 AAC Blackout, 300 Savage, etc.) at that time, will there be sufficient time for DNR to process that and write policy per HB1231 to be in effect for this fall's deer season?

This is what I'm wondering... I'd love to just take the sbr and not have to throw the 300 upper on the pistol lower.

I've been trying to keep up but it's been difficult. My question is since they didn't clarify what .300 means, would 7.62X39 be legal. Of course if they do "clarify" in June who can guess.

Rugers are well served with a trigger job. Got plenty of time to get it to a gunsmith.

No need to take it to a gunsmith when Timney already has a drop-in trigger group - Ruger® Model 77® - Tang Safety
    However...
I had heard that the MKII and later bolt guns have so-so triggers, but mine is the old tang safety M77 version, which just so happens to have quite a nice trigger just as it is.
And that's not just my opinion, but that of lots of other folks.

This for me too... but they have restriction stating a rifle must have a 16" barrel. My .300 blk is a wee bit short. I have an open lower that I could build up, but really would rather use the SBR.

Of course if you use the pistol you can carry as much ammo as you want... in case a horde of zombie deer appear in the field.

If I am remembering right, most 7.62 x 39 uses a .303 bullet. Some AR 15 uppers actual use a .300 bullet in the 7.62 x 39. Of course the 300 Fireball, 300 Whisper, and 300 Blackout are actually labeled 300 in the name.

I thought the 7.62 was equivalent to the .308

    Has HB1231 passed yet?
Last I read was that the governor needed to sign the bill and that he had a stack of other bills to sign first.

7.62x51 would be the .308 win equiv by dim.

    7.62x39 IIRC uses a .310 or so bullet (is not a .300 or .308).

But names can be a little silly. A 150 gr bullet still at 2700 FPS @ 500 yards.............308 Warbird. Lazzeroni says its 7.82 bullet though.

30 06- 7.62X63mm, 30 30- 7.62X51mmR, 308- 7.62X51mm, 300 Win Mag- 7.62X67mm, 300 BLK- 7.62X35mm, since all of these are considered 300's I would think that 7.62X39mm would be also. I wish the powers that be would have just added a couple more calibers to the list like 35 Rem. and 270 Win. That would have been too simple obviously and besides I'm looking forward to being in the same area with a couple guys using 300 Win Mags.

.35 rem trimmed works fine, but the other two are .243's.......

and yeah, kids trash the carpet, needs shampoo'd. Eh, as soon as spring cleaning gets done they'll spill more crap on it.
    Always do LOL.
Other house had hardwood, so they just dented and scratched that stuff up.

Rather have rifles than rugrats LOL.....people actually think the former has value even if they don't behave ;)

While a .300 winmag might be a .30 cal, nobody in the circles I run has ever called a .308 win or .30-06 Sprng a "three hundred".
Me thinks somebody is going for a slanger's stretch.

    Oh yeah, baby!
    An M77 International.
    Lucky dog.
    Those are really nice rifles.
I trust yours is in .308, right?
I'm certain that was at least one of the half dozen or so calibers that Uncle Bill made the International chambered for.
