I haven't shot for about a year and a few months until a couple weeks ago. First time to the range and I was doing horribly with my AR even with the .22 kit at the 25 yard line, but the second range trip went quite well, I was a much better shot that time around.

Guess a little rusty practice and a week in between helped.

I could probably go without a few things for that long, but not shooting.

Get back to basics/fundamentals. Sight picture and trigger control. You aren't focusing on one or the other appropriately. Shoot some groups. Get your focus and technique back were it should be, then re-try whatever drills you were working on.

[Or apply booze and women and return to your shooting the next day.]

I figured out what was wrong. ... not concentrating on my sight. ... I caught myself thinking about the brass.

Oops, should have read it all... I see you came to the same conclusion.
Allowing yourself to be distracted by a piece of *ss is one thing, but a piece of BR*ss? common man. Prioritize.

i like jeremy's answer. i kinda suck at shooting pistol, so the days i make good hits, i wonder if i am improving or just screwing up and getting lucky, lol. with a rifle, i am generally a decent shot. as far as mojo, i can not say i have enough experience shooting to be able to say i have lost it on a particular day. with other sports, i can definately say i have, and the do something fun to get over it, definately helps. stop caring about the results, just go have fun and the mojo will return.
