We have never bought there, but have shopped there.

It's a misconconception that you have to talk to a sales rep before wandering the lot. We've done it. Yes, you have to go through the office to get to the lot. Tell them you want to be left alone and just want to shop. They'll let you.]

As far as stickers on the car that advertise the lot: First off, they're easy to remove. I've taken them off or had the dealer take them off before delivery on every vehicle I've ever bought, regardless of location. Just tell them you want the sticker removed before delivery.

It's not that hard to get what you want (of course, you do have to ask).

The best part about CarMax is you can get a test drive pretty easily. They have always accompanied me on drives, but at least they aren't like the $tealers that act like their used car is precious and another mile will destroy the value. I've used CarMax more than once just to drive a vehicle that I was curious about or wanted to try out.

CarMax offered me more on one car than Acura did, but I wound up selling it to Acura since it reduced my tax on the new car.

I still won't buy from a "fixed price" dealer. I know that the used cars are where they make the greatest profit. I bought my last 2 cars new for under dealer invoice. Granted, I take the depreciation, but if I keep the car long enough it evens out. What irks me to no end is seeing a car that Acura gave me $7900 for on their lot for $12k. The car was worth way more than $7900, but how they need that much profit per used car is beyond me. Unfortunately, I was under the "gotta have it" spell and wanted a new car I didn't really need.
