I suggest: take it to a good smith, have him do a function/reliability inspection on it. Then decide if you want to shoot it.
My guess is, its solid enough to go have some enjoyment with it. My M1 Carbine is 70 years old & functions flawlessly!

I know my dad has shot in but that has been a few years. But I hear the hammer spring can break. Right now I have her oiled and on my shelf but if I could find a smith I trusted I would take her in.

Wards Hercules model 51 16ga. side by side passed down by my grandfather. Brings back a flood of fond memories every time I look at it. I swear it almost emits aromas of squirrel season and his pipe tobacco.

I have many, many guns. But the ones that mean the most to me is my Winchester Model 94 (pre 1964) that my folks got my for my graduation gift 5 years ago. I would also have to say the Late 1940s-50s Stevens side-by-side .20ga that my dad gave my on my 13 birthday that was my great grandfathers gun. Hopefully I can pass them down to my children one day.

10/22 that dad bought me when I was younger. my dad collects finnish mosins. One of which a Finn 28/30 with bayonet that he got from my uncle years ago. My family is Finnish, and out of all the other Finnish mosins, the 28/30 is by far my fav.

For me it would have to be a Remington 241 Speedmaster in 22 SR that my grandfather purchased in 1937. Looks fantastic for being 76 years old.

The first gun I bought, Bersa Thunder 380. Not the greatest once I got a little bit more knowledge about guns, but reliable and perfect for me. The other is SGL 31-85 with Kobra sight, my mom bought me for my birthday. I would never get rid of them.

My first gun. my dad gave it to me right before hunting season when I was eleven. Remington 870 wingmaster. Killed a lot of game with that gun. I still shoot it from time to time.

Mine is a Marlin Golden 39A. I've bought and traded literally hundreds of guns through the years. The only one that I've kept and always will is the Marlin that my wife of 39 years bought me as a Christmas present when she was 16 and I was 18. Many years ago I mentioned that I was considering trading it. She burst into tears, "You're not going to trade my present are you?" Of course the correct answer was, "No, certainly not. Was just a dumb thought."

I've had this gun 40 years and expect I will until i draw my last breath. :)
