I love my Sig P938 but I absolutely hate the factory finish on the slide. What is a good, durable alternative available, if any? Since this is my EDC pistol and this is the area with the most wear I don't think a spray-on finish like Duracoat, etc. would hold up very long. I am planning on something for the slide only and just wanted to see what my best option would be. Thanks.

    Parkerizing?
If this is an option there is a guy right in your town that can do it.

If you decide on Duracoat or Ceracoat I believe he does these also

Cerakote is a good finish. I had my EDC Glock 26 slide and barrel cerakoted while I was having another piece done. It seems to be holding up fine to daily carry in a hybrid IWB holster.

Know John well. Bought a few guns from him in the past. I'll give him a call.

Mil-spec Parkerizing is the most durable finish I have found and it holds a lot of oil. It has proven to be the best finish the D.O.D. has found and used since the 1940s.

A buddy of mine cerakotes stuff and it holds up great. He cerakoted his daily carry pistol and it looks fantastic and has held up a long time. He does rails and everything. Stuff is great!

Most of your spray on finishes will start with a parkerizing first, to give the coating something to stick to. I used KG GunKote to finish the slide on my wife's PF-9 several years ago, and its still just as good as the day I did it. Parkerizing alone will wear cosmetically fairly quickly, but the protection you will get from it goes much deeper than the surface. The only finishes that I would think more durable would be some of the proprietary finishes like mellonite, or one of the finishes that Robar offers.

Cerakote and IonBond hold up the besy. I have guns that I use for USPSA with these coatings on it. They don't have any finish wear on them at all with over a year of in and out of my bladetech holsters. AllenM did all my cerakote work and couldn't be happier with the way the guns turned out.

I believe that you can spray cerakote (at least one of their varieties) with an HVLP system now, so if you know someone who has a paint booth or is a woodworker, you might be able to go that route yourself. I would test on something cheap first, of course.
