Do gun bans really stop criminals from getting guns? Americans need not look no further than the massive gun battle with armed gangs fighting police and soldiers that took place in Kingston, Jamaica today. At least 30 people were killed in the fighting. It is a huge number for a small island nation of fewer than 3 million people, but unfortunately murder is so common in Jamaica that these murders won't even be noticed in the annual crime numbers.

With Chicago's Mayor Daley again claiming that a gun ban is necessary to keep Chicagoans safe, Jamaica and other countries with gun bans might teach Americans a lesson... FoxNews Article

Sad thing about Jamaica is that it is over ONE person, a single person. One would think they would just bulldoze the entire darn block. Given the body count this goon and his henchmen have racked up so far, they would have just napalmed the joint.

Gun bans are a silliness that only the rich in nice areas protected by bodyguards (like Daly) can afford to quibble about. My stepmother says she never needed a gun and doesn't believe in them. "I've been to a ton of bad areas and never had an issue" she claims. I reminded her of her sociology education and her statistics education. I have been mugged twice, she never. Using statistics to protect yourself instead of a gun is like betting 1million dollars to potentially win 2 million. Great if you win, but terrible if you lose.

Areas, heavily populated or dense population, always seem to labor under the delusion that bans work, only to have their countries, cities, etc... turn into horrible, decaying ruins ran by criminals. Heck, Chicago is run by the fattest of criminal cats, so what is new? Jamaica is next...

Jamaica has consistenly been one of the top few dangerious countries for many years. You just get hacked up with a machete instead of shot (usually). Here's a list (or two or three) showing Jamaica at #3 or 4 on the murders per capita list.

Murders (per capita) statistics - countries compared - NationMaster
    Homicide Rate by Country
Murder Rate by Country - Intentional Homicide - 2007 Rank - Countries Rankings

BTW, the purpose of gun control has nothing to do with crime. That's just plausible political cover for the 30% or so idiot segment of the population.

Gun control is about control. Plain and simple. Don't be distracted by the smoke and mirrors.
