I was leaving the ISO on Monument Circle last night and saw a group called the Guardian Angels. Who is this group? They were carrying handcuffs, pepper spray, and batons. I am just wandering what their purpose was for being downtown Indy.

IIRC, they are or used to be big in New York and actually did a fair job of keeping things in line there. Anybody know more?

    This.

A long history that a google search will lead to hours of reading - hours you'll never get back. ;)

My take is the same as caddywhompus: they were a response in the socialist State-Cities (Chicago, NY, etc..) where the average citizen has been disarmed and the lawless see happy-hunting-ground. At least, that's one viewpoint. Another facet is they are a group of wannabes who cluelessly strut around and cause more harm than good.

Probably the GA's think they are the law and will be
attempting to give grief to the lawful OC'er.
    Hilarity will ensue.
That's what I was thinking. I don't know if these guys are from around here or not, but I would think that OCing in their presence wouldn't provoke any reaction from them, unless your open OCing and acting like a thug. I really don't see the point of OCing just to get a negative reaction from somebody. Then again, I know nothing of this group, so who knows, it might be fun.:dunno:I'm in.

Curtis Sliwa was one of the founding members of the GA in NYC, he used to have a radio show, was semi-conservitive, and pro-gun rights, the reason the GA didn't carry was the stupid gun laws in NYC

This was all discussed waaay back here: https://www.indianagunowners.com/fo...e/113378-guardian_angels_in_indianapolis.html

I, for one, would love to give those idiots a chance to see a large group of self-defense minded citizens such as ourselves and see what happens.

So they are a tier above Mall ninjas but not the same tier as space shuttle door gunners or the infamous Ranger-Scout Sniper-SEAL's from the 101st Airborne Commando Special Forces Division that sell beef jerky at gun shows?

    Yeah......

........................ I really don't see the point of OCing just to get a negative reaction from somebody..................

This is one of the better responses I've seen to the hoopla from the "I got hassled while OCing" crowd.

The GA are here doing the same thing they've always wanted to do...............Draw attention, particularly from the media. Ignore them and they'll go away.

I'm a little uncomfortable with the handcuffs. Who gave them the right to restrain people?

The laws of the state of Indiana?...:dunno:

Anyone (even a GA) can perform a citizens arrest under the correct lawful circumstances.

I think it's funny that a group that wants "the people" to take responsibility for our our own safety & not rely on "the government" would complain about a citizens group trying to do just that.

I don't see them as any worse than the typical neighborhood watch, just on a larger scale.

If it helps & no one gets unnecessarily (illegally) hassled what's the problem? :dunno:

I don't see a problem either. I'd much rather see a group of them walking down the street than a bunch of gang bangers. I read six of them have been shot and killed by BGs, so apparently they are willing to die to help others.

I have no problem with the Guardian Angels. Whether they're dumba**es or not, they put themselves out there, stand up and try to make a difference. Several of them have been shot for what they do. No matter who you are, if you're out there trying to make a difference and it means enough to you to take a bullet for it, then kudos to you!
