I'll throw out there that I have relatives that live right on Epler, between 135 and Bluff Road. If that is where you saw this, it very well could of been a cousin of mine that is active duty stationed at Atterbury with some of his friends, home for a visit. This is complete speculation on my part because I am no where close to that part of my extended family, but this might of been what you saw.
This was about 1/2 to 1 mile from their location, depending on how far down on epler they are. Sounds like it could be them I guess.

Space Turtle- Camden is between shelby and US31. The only street that goes north from epler between those street. 1/4 mile east of the Speedway Gast station there at epler/31.

Last I checked, the Guards and Reserves where Army ;)

oh... and some Navy Reserve as well :D

...and also the old Army Air Corps aka Air Guard aka Air Force. I wonder why we didn't keep with the Department of the Army when we branched off - like the Marines are under the Department of the Navy? We didn't cover that in basic, tech or upgrade training. Unless we needed a separate department when we branched whereas the Marine Corps really are not a separate branch....

Just some slimy Army pukes ditty-boppin' around off base in cammies...

    Nothin' to worry about...

    j/k

...but we Jarheads were never allowed to mill about off base in cammies, and to do so was a cardinal sin, and another Marine would not hesitate to tear the offender a new mud hole.

well its a lot different when youre guard/reserve/agr. you dont live on a base. im all over town in acus. i live about 25 minutes away from my drill center, and i only like to leave the house once a day. when i was on AD, i never went anywhere in bdus. there was no reason to. besides, you were likely enough to get into a fight outside bragg...didnt need the extra attention.

    It's cool, bro...

I understand the branches have different uniform regs.

Most Marines are jealous they can't run into the 7/11 or cruise the mall in cammies like you guys can, and it's a real hassle to change over to civvies before doing so.

Our regs came about probably because some jarhead tank mechanic went into a 5-star restaurant looking like a grease monkey! ;)

the regs dont really matter. its all about the individual. i came home on leave once and went to hooters w/ some buddies. the local marine recruiters were there getting hammered...in a mix of cammies and charlies.

Army regulations are the same. You are not to hanging around off post in your duty uniform. Stop for a gallon of milk and nobody is going to say anything, but going to movie or the mall or just hanging out somebody is going to say something. God help you you if you're out of uniform or looking/acting like a dickbag.

    Just some FYI...

I am stationed at Atterbury, we have some government contracted housing in the area. Could have been some of our guys just getting off work. Could be any number of things. We currently do not have any training exercises in the area. That being said, regardless of your branch of the armed forces there are always individuals that disregard regulations. As was stated earlier in the thread, Soldiers are NOT authorized to just travel around willy nilly in ACUs, or any other authorized uniform for that matter. You may travel to and from your duty station and thats it. The only local authorizations are the gas station, or an auto shop. As INRanger stated, if you stop to grab a loaf of bread or gallon of milk, then that is generally accepted. I for one have absolutely no problem utilizing my rank to make an on the spot correction regardless of the individuals rank or duty position. If the Sergeant Major or any other NCO worth their salt saw that crap going on, there would be 8-10 mofreakys getting stomped.

Occasionally we allow a group of mobilizing Soldiers a night out at the mall, with a stop at a restaurant or movie theater, but they are escorted by their trainers. You may even find a group of Soldiers at a sporting event, again, this is sanctioned by the Brigade Commander and Sergeant Major. Other than all that, there would be no good reason why a group of Soldiers was hanging out like that.

After all, gathering like that tends to attract attention. Unfortunately, there ARE individuals in our communities who look upon our Armed Forces as a target and not an asset. Allrighty, time to get off my soapbox!!

    :soapbox: :ranton:

I see Nat'l Guard / Reserve guys and Army Recruiters in uniform around here all the time....

Dudes even come to football games in ACU's and stand on the sidelines.

damn, enough with this thread and the insinuations already...
