Hopefully this person realizes how serious of an error this is, in the grand scale of NFA-related things. In the grand scale of the seriousness of life, not so much.

Don't worry, ReSS. It will work out in the end. If nothing else, you got a really epic INGO thread out of the ordeal.

You can always have it re-etched properly in another location? I do like the strikethrough option, though...

    Slight update.

Talked to Spike's this afternoon. Apparently, the turn in/destroy/remanufacture deal is legit. They can do it.

    But not for me.

Spike's does not manufacture their own lowers according to the person I spoke with, and after supplying them with my serial number, was advised I cannot go this route because they no longer do business with the actual manufacturer of this lower.

I'm currently weighing options, and the person I spoke to at Spike's gave me some interesting info that I want to confirm before throwing it out into the open. I'll be calling the BATF tomorrow to try to confirm what I was told.

I am a machinist and have engraved lowers for people before, and I agree that this could be done very easily and not compromise the strength of the lower.

I agree, you don't need to worry about the strength of the lower, you won't be removing much material. It always makes me a little nervous when I have to engrave something that already has the paperwork sent out or approved.

I know ATF requires Name, city and state to be engraved. Is last name sufficient or does it need to be the full name or first initial and last name. Also abbreviations ok? Such as W. for west or IN for Indiana. Thanks.

You must engrave whatever name you put in box 1 on your Form 1/4. If you put initials in there, you would be able to engrave it, though I don't know if ATF would approve a transfer without a full first name.

For city and state, recognized postal abbreviations would be acceptable.
