My boss wanted our section/branch to have a really nice NIST-traceable temperature probe.
So our lab supervisor was looking at one about $3k.
But no. The boss wanted something even more expensive. $8800 for a super holey moley temeprature probe that never has to be sent in for calibration/certification (as almost everything else does).
And then there had to be a $5000 Ohm meter in order to READ what the $8800 temp probe was sending out. And then there's the $250 machined Al or Cu "bore" to hold said temperature probe inside another already-owned $5k machine. And then there's the $500 to upgrade our heavy marble table to isolate minute vibrations.
All of that when a $3k device would suffice.
And then there's the $80k worth of flow meter certification equipment we have...that's required to be sent in every 2 years for calibration/certification at a cost of $5k/instance...
