If it's jamming with all stock parts there is a problem and installing aftermarket parts will not help, and might possibly make it worse. He needs to take it to a certified Glock armorer or send it back to Glock. The Glock 17 will function well with 115gr loads just fine. Send it in and have it looked at.

Pistol is always fired well lubed with G96.

What are you calling "well lubed"? The GLOCK needs very little lube, too much, and in the wrong places causes problems.

Think we can declare victory here. BIL called and said he fired 9 full mags of the Nato spec w/o fail after installing the new spring and rod. Even shot a couple mags of 115 gr w/o a hitch! Asked him the spring weight and he said 17# reduced power. Factory is 18# on the Glock 19 according to him. Wouldn't have thought a single pound would make a telling difference but was struck by his comment that the slide was very noticeably much easier to rack. Makes me wonder if the original was out of spec or something. Thanks for all the comments and advice , I'm happy he got the gun up and running . I'm going to suggest he contact Glock to get a new factory recoil spring and see how it does.
