I would ask her what she want's to do.
This.
I always ask my spouse what "She" wants.
When she turned 40 a shopping trip was her request and thats what she got.
I would ask her what she want's to do.
Her friends are 2 hours away, and that's too far? She needs new friends.
I'm in a spot ladies and gentleman, and I need some help. Last fall, my GF moved in with me which is 2 hours away from her hometown. Her 40th Bday is next month, and I don't know what to do. To my knowledge, since I don't and refuse to facebook, none of her friends will be doing anything for her due to the distance. She only knows my neighbors, and her coworkers here in Indy. She has no family left in her hometown, just some friends, and they aren't her "best" friends. The "best" ones live all over the place and in no way is getting them all together possible.
WTF do I do? Don't women hate the whole turning 40 thing? Don't women also hate it when you don't celebrate their birthday? She has already made the comment (I'm sure she thought I wasn't listening),
"I wont be doing anything for my birthday anyway" in response to some other context or question. I didn't respond since I figured it was a trap/trick question.
Since her B-day is normally right around the Kentucky Derby and she's a Derby fan, in the past, we have went to the nearby horse track, watched some races and the hit the casino for a little bit with a cab ride home since horse racing and booze go so good together. 2 of the past 3 years this has been the plan. Last year, we agreed to not celebrate B-days, and we went to Vegas instead of blowing $ on gifts etc.
I've got a good feeling that none of her friends will do anything which leaves me as the party/event planner.
What would you do if in my shoes?
Same old trip to the horse track?
Stay home, cook dinner and drinks, and enjoy an evening with the only people she knows up here (my neighbors which are good people)
Go out for dinner somewhere nice by ourselves
Go turkey hunting and leave her alone to realize her friends suck? Ok, not really, but it IS an option.
Something else. I'd love to hear any ideas from y'all!
When my wife turned 40 I sent her to a day spa for a few hours while I picked up a dozen long stemmed roses and dropped them off at the Oceanaire downtown. I picked her up and took her home and told her we were going to a nice restaurant for dinner so she would dress appropriately. We then went to dinner and they had her flowers on the table along with a (sappy) card I'd made for her (bring on the tears). After dinner I told her I wanted to have a drink so we walked down to Nicky Blaine's. When we walked in she saw as many of our friends and family as I could get together as a surprise. We spent a few hours in there before I surprised her with a very nice room for the night at the Homewood Suites.
I could do no wrong for a month after that.

Take her to the Derby.
