I have a Gen 2 Glock 21 and a Springfield 1911. I've carried them both and put many rounds through both at the range. For a range gun I prefer the 1911, hard to beat a classic. But for carry, I prefer the Glock. The weight of the slide is easily balanced with a loaded mag and the simplicity of the style makes it great to conceal, especially IWB. More comfortable without the hammer and dovetail digging in your side also. I found the barrel length of the 1911 harder to conceal as well. But with all that being said, I just bought an XDs in .45 for carry.
