My initial comment was probably snarkier than it needed to be. It was mostly directed at the rest of the crowd that only consider the top three and seem to think that everyone needs to own one of those. Based upon the description of what you would prefer to have I think the CZ family, and particularly the 75B, would be worth your time to investigate. Sometimes to get what you want you have to break away from the crowd.

You mean I do not "Have" to own a 1911 just cause everybody says to.......:dunno:

    Too late.

I have fired a CZ. Nothing found wrong with the gun. I still feel better with a 1911. They for the most part just fit me.

I have 1911's and glocks but in the end, I carry the Glock 21. I have 2 19's and they see little use. I like how the glock feels, it goes bang EVERY time, and 13+1 capacity of 45 while still being lighter than a 1911. Im sold.

A little update. Scoped out a Gen 3 Glock 21 at a Gander Mtn. this evening. Trigger felt good. Nothing at all like what I remember my G19 being like. I can't really say +1 for Glock. More like I can no longer say +1 for the 1911 trigger. On a side note: the tag wasn't marked as 21SF, and the very helpful guy behind the counter had no idea it was an SF. The only reason I noticed was because I handled a Gen 4 G21 right afterwards. He asked me how it felt and I said pretty much the same, but then I thought that can't be right, aren't Gen 4's without a backstrap a little thinner than Gen 3's? Turns out I was right. Then I noticed the SF on the frame. I guess I just assumed those guys would know about every gun in there. Oh well, you know what assuming does.

I prefer the grip of the Gen4s (texture), but since it's the same size as the SF versions, "Settling' for a gen 3 SF wasn't a big deal. Some Talon grip tape on a gen 3 is about as good as a gen 4 grip.

Then again, you still don't have the larger mag release nor dual RSA.

The SFs are identified on the frame if you know where to look.

The first thing I did on my G20SF was a very basic polish job on the trigger internals. Remarkable improvement in trigger smoothness and break crispness with extremely low cost. All you need are q-tips and some kind of metal polish (Flitz, Mother's mag wheel polish, etc).

Also, I will putting the Gen 4 trigger in my Gen 3-- I really liked the dot connector in my gen4 G22. It's similar pull to the standard gen 3 connector, but feels like a cleaner break.

if you can squeeze $1200 out of your budget for a nice 1911, do yourself a favor and buy both guns. You should be able to pick up a decent Glock for carry for under $500 which leaves you $700 to put into a 1911. That kind of money will buy a good entry level 1911. I paid less than that for my stainless Remington. If you buy both, you can enjoy the 1911 all you want while carrying the Glock to benefit from it's capacity.

There are advantages to Glocks especially the larger capacity magazine, but remember 1911's have been around for over a century and with no major changes in design. They do one thing, do it very well and just keep on doing it.
For myself I'll carry my 7 round 1911 defender and a couple of extra mags.

I've owned both. The Glock 21 is like trying to shoot a .45 bullet while holding a 2x4. Seriously, the ergonomics of a Glock 21 are in violation of at least 4 OSHA regulations.

The 1911 however, is like shooting poetry.

Sure, there's a capacity difference to consider. I can shoot 8 rounds of .45 poetry, or I can bludgeon someone to death with 13 rounds from a Glock 2x4. It's your choice.

For clarity, the above ergonomic statements do not apply equally to the G21SF. If it wasn't for the G20SF, I'd not be able to have a 10mm.

My first Glock was a G20sf. If I had bought a G20, I'm not sure I'd have bought another Glock. It's tough to compare a 1911 to a Glock. It's like comparing an old Mustang to a Honda Accord. Both can be used for a daily commute but the Accord is easier to live with if you are not into cars. The old Mustang will work just fine for a daily commuter with a skilled owner. A Honda allows an unskilled owner to enjoy a reliable commute (maybe 'enjoy' is the wrong term).

I love my 1911s and carry them often. I know my way around a 1911 and practice regularly. But, more often than not I'm carrying a Glock 23. For me, it's the simple choice that has the best balance of caliber, capacity and concealment. It's the same thing with my commute. I can take the 69 Fiat Spider or I can take the family car. The Fiat is a lot more fun but the family car is the simple choice.

I carry a 1911 3" and I can carry 2 extra wilson combat 7 rd mags, however I rarely do carry extra mags. Practice the situation the weapon is intended for, which is not a full blown combat situation! Its a mugger or armed robber in a store, or a couple punks in the park, or at worst a gunman in a theater! You will not need 13 rounds to do the job if you are prepared for the situation and 7+1 out of my 1911 in condition 1 will do quick work and has the knockdown power to do it with 1 or 2 shots per bad guy!

I love 1911s, but if it going to be a carry gun or a defense gun, I would go with the Glock. If you read reputable opinions (Larry Vickers, etc.) they state that while 1911s are awesome, they take a lot of work and maintenance to run them.

I skimmed every page, and didnt see this posted. I have no real interest here. I like them both, and anyone with a hatred for one or the other, probably has a bug up his ass, and should be taken with a grain of salt.

I've shot and carried all the 9mm glocks and carried a 5 in steel frame kimber and kimber CDP 4 in, about the same size and weight of the glock 19 (the CDP is)
I no doubts about it shoot the glock 17 and full size steel frame kimber the best but if it was me and I were only going to have one or the other I'd take the glock 19.
It has the rail for a light for the nightstand gun, if you cant do it in 15 rounds you shouldn't be doing it at all, they're not bad to carry and in my personal experience I've always been far more accurate with the 1911's but I can hit the target with the glock. Just my opinion,
    Hope it helps!!
