See, when I hear or read the word, "free," it makes my spidey-sense (or is that rhino-sense) tingle. Nothing is free. Nothing.

Someone, somehow, some way pays for it.

Usually it ends up being the person who thinks they're getting something for free. It may not be a direct, immediate cost in dollars, but there will be a cost.

    Agree rhino,

That FREE newletter from FrontSight was just too much. Every week I would get a FREE email newsletter and it was very heavy on the selling of membership, etc. Next came the junk in the mail and now I'm getting recorded phone calls from them!

I stopped the newsletter a while back but what makes me mad is the telemarketing!

Well...the course is free, but...ammo, lodging, car rental, airfare, etc. I believe they promote the certificates to encourage the initial membership purchace by stating that "with the membership you can bring your family along to get training" .

I would just be expecting a big sales pitch to be pushed on me if I went. Honestly, I'd rather just save the travel expense and put it towards going to TDI in Ohio.

Im not down with the scientology stuff. no thanks

I think the FrontSight and Scientology "thing" is just a rumor.
    See this
Front Sight, Ignatius Piazza, and Scientology?

    but I am not sure.

No matter while it would be fun to take a course there I would rather take a course anywhere that they are not going to try and push more stuff on me. "schools" (be it universities, colleges, high school prep, karate dojo, gun training) should NOT be in the bussiness of pushing addiitonal courses on you. If one likes the training and feels they got good training/education one tends to continue to do buissiness with that 'school' to get more training.

I don't believe it is... half of his business strategies were written by Hubbard for scientology.

This topic came up at our local range. A few gents who went, weren't all that impressed. Unless things have changed, they basically paid to be escorted to the range, issue verbal commands, and step-by-step them through drills that could easily have been done at our local range, after downloading whatever course of fire we happened to be interested in. If you don't have the self-discipline to take yourself to the range and adhere to a given course of fire, Front Sight will do it for you. I personally think you'd be better off buying a $500 handgun, and buying $700 worth of ammo to practice with at the range.

Just a few courses of fire........ from an online search......

Not to thread hijack, but this just shows that there are many shooting schools out there, and attending more than one is wise. Years ago, I bought a "week" long course from Front Site for $200. It's probably worth a lot more than that now, but I've been too busy with OEF to find out. The USG has paid me to attend Mid-South, Blackwater and two others, and I've gained knowledge/skills from them all. I'd imagine that anyone would garner something new from Front Site...but if they pressure me with sales pitches during the training, it's going to get ugly. I'm there for weapons training, nothing else.

There is no doubt that Piazza is a scientologist and that it significantly influences his interaction with his customers.

That L Ron Hubbard was a hack as a writer, but his idea to create a religion to make money was clearly accurate. Too bad the adherents refuse to acknowledge the whole thing was specifically created to separate naive and/or stupid people from their money.

One of my co-workers/boss has a membership to Front Site and is there right now in fact. He offered me a certificate to attend the 2 or 4 day course for free, but I am a bit leary of the hard sales pitch they give. There is no way Im getting any membership there, but I would like the opportunity to get the training.

IIRC, he had some odd 'quirks' he learned at FS. I'll be dipped if I can remember what they were, but I shook my head every time I saw it.

eta: Piazza is just too damned pretty IMO.....

I attended Front Sight's 2 day basic pistol course in August '06. It was decent, but they treat you like you've never held a gun before. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as there were a few people there who hadn't.

They taught fundamentals well, but that was about it. If you don't want your hand held, don't go to Front Sight.
