I work for the railroad (currently as a dispatcher) on the extra board, basically swing shift, but on call. 0700-1500, 1500-2300, 2300-0700 I really prefer 3rds.

It was the "all the livelong day" shifts that scared me away from this vocation.;)

I agree, when i was a conductor I was on call 24/7 365, worked 12hrs a day 7 days a week. Had no days off and if you wanted a day off, you had to call off sick. If you called off once a month you were calling off excessively.. I was "sick" twice a month.

    I work either 10 am - 6 pm ......or .......12pm -8 pm

They call it day shift in the casino industry , but i do get good days off .
I have Friday and Saturday off , with the economy in the crapper i volunteer every other thursday off .

I have no problem showing up for work ..It's that damn 8 hour wait to go home that kills me ....

I start at 9:30 for now, and finish whenever the work is done, has been around 8:00 for the last few weeks. Guess this is another other.

4 on 4 off, 12hrs , rotating days to nights (Steel Dynamics). I use to work at Inland Container in Crawfordsville and that is the craziest schedule I have ever seen it starts out 4 nights 3 off 3 days 1 off 3 nights 3 off 4 days 7 off, then it starts all over again, It was 7am to 7pm also. It was kinda nice getting 7 days off every month on that long off.

Was a third shifter for 6.5 years, then they decided to switch us to 12 hour shifts so now it's 5p-5a

You had better make multiple choices next time. Some of us are doing multiple shifts...

I selected Other due to there are only two shifts here.

    I work 5am to 5pm, Thur-Sat one week then Wed-Sat the next.

So I only work 6 months a year not counting the 3 weeks vacation I get.

It all depends on what needs to be done. I do not have a set hours to work as long as I work 40 hours a week. I normally work 7:30 to 5:30. There have been times that I work about 15 hours a day or more.
