...I think I've maybe seen somebody tig weld a crack once or twice...
    You been spying on me?

I have done this to several aluminum wheels that had small cracks with a slow leak. Drill a small hole at the end of the crack and TIG it up. So far, all have held air and no catastrophic failures.

Probably because it's depicting/promoting dangerous behavior or misinformation. Surprised they left it up at all.

You're not even supposed to TIG weld an alloy wheel if it is a forged rim or certain alloys.

    From a welding forum:
Some 2XXX and 7XXX aluminum is NOT weldable, and Alcoa recommends welding NOT be done on their wheels.

Aircraft skins are also another alloy not weldable (that's why they're riveted).

Well yeah...but he bought a PI and now wants to make it look less like a PI? No improvement in performance (such as it is) and a reduction in curb hopping ability. 'Course, he's 19, so....

I doubt it. I have been seeing a lot of dangerous information out there. Pretty bad for all the people that do not know any better. I still think it is mostly from too many negative comments.
