So, after almost fifteen years of buying and selling guns due to guns being "almost" ideal, I have finally found my ideal handgun.

    Drum roll please. . . .

I have discovered the Kimber Super Carry Custom HD (well, actually two of them).

Here's what I love about this gun:

    1. It's a 1911 in 45ACP.
    2. Rounded heel.
    3. All stainless steel, full size gun with KimPro finish.
    4. Ambi safety (I am a lefty)
    5. G-10 Grips
    6. All edges are beveled.
    7. Traditional GI recoil guide rod.
    8. No Schwartz Safety
    9. Fish scale serrations work without being abrasive.
    10. Night Sights with cocking shelf.
    11. TIGHT bushing and slide/ frame fit.
    12. Very accurate with no hiccups thus far.

The gun is great in hand and is the EXACT gun I would have had built if I had the money for a custom.

Just awesome! Probably not gonna be a lot more guns out up on the boards for sale here since I believe my search is over!

It rides in a Wilson Combat IWB holster similar to the Milt Sparks Summer Special, and is both comfortable AND comforting.

I have heard that, but it seems to be pretty hit or miss. Some seem to last a long time and others are flaking after the first trip to the range. My gun has held up perfectly so far. I guess if it gets too bad, I could get it DLC coated or Black T coated. Either way, it is all stainless, so no worries.

    Thanks for the heads up!

Mine could be chipped off with a fingernail. I called Kimber about it and they said they would look it at, but I had to pay for the shipping both ways. No thanks and I will probably never buy another of their 1911s. Glad you got a good one.:yesway:

Yep, I have had many, but none that had all I wanted in one package.

This is a very special model anyone who is a fan of 1911s should check out!

The Custom is a 5" barrel.

They also have a Pro and an Ultra in the two smaller sizes if that floats your boat.

I have always liked the full size guns in a 1911.

I've always thought the fish scale serrations looked great. And the black on black look in addition to it being stainless would do it for me too. So this shod keep you satisfied for at least 9 to 12 months....right?

I have three Kimbers but don't think I would buy them again and am actually considering selling my Eclipse. I learned the hard way about the shortcomings of plastic mainspring housings (MSH) when I dropped the pistol and broke the mainspring housing. Granted, most people are not as fat fingered as I am and rarely drop their pistols. But what can I say, I did, and a broken MSH was the result, which would not have happened if it had been steel. My Pro TLE II now has a Wilson Combat steel mainspring housing and several other Wilson Combat internal parts. The original finish has been replaced with Cerakote. Overall, the Wilson parts have improved the performance, and don't have to worry about breaking the mainspring housing again.

The Super Carry HD line all have metal mainspring housings, so no worries there.

And LOL, Mackey. We are hoping I can hold onto them for at least that long.

Disassembled and cleaned the second one I bought for the first time today. Even nicer than the first one. Bushing wasn't so tight as to be unmanageable, so reassembly was much easier.
