A felony conviction does not disenfranchise an individual. Most of this is a variant of Kirk's First Law of the Internet.*

Disenfranchisement is common in the South so people think it is the law everywhere.

*Kirk's First Law of the Internet: if it is the law in Texas, it is the law everywhere.

The least expensive way to have most of you rights restored is to file for a Certificate of relief of Liabilities. I say most of your rights and owning a gun is one of them. He can not run for government office. This certificate is usually investigated by the probation department in the jurisdiction where the felony took place and you dont need an attorney to file it.
